El premio representa una frambuesa sobre un pedestal. Es de plástico, está pintada con spray dorado y su precio en el mercado no supera los 4 euros.
Con el Razzie se premia lo peor del cine de cada año, aunque también hay premios especiales.
Las peores carreras
Aparte de las consabidas categorías, durante la década de los 80 se entregaron varios premios a las peores carreras del cine.
Fueron cuatro los galardonados, entre ellos la niña de El Exorcista, Linda Blair; y el ex-presidente de Estados Unidos Ronald Reagan. El último de estos galardones se le entregó al tiburón de plástico empleado en Tiburón 1, Tiburón 2, Tiburón 3 y Tiburón 4.
Este año la Organización está reconsiderando volver a entregar este premio para honrar la infame carrera de Sylvester Stallone.
Historia de los Razzies
Los Golden Raspberry Awards o Razzies se fundaron en 1980 por el crítico y escritor de cine John Wilson, en un intento de criticar la todopoderosa industria cinematográfica estadounidense. Año tras año los miembros votan las películas, directores e interpretaciones que consideran peores, aunque a diferencia de los Oscar, cualquiera puede ser miembro.
Como curiosidad, dos actores lograron ser nominados a un Oscar y un Razzie por la misma interpretación. Estos fueron James Coco por Only when I Laugh de 1982 y Amy Irving por Yentl en 1984, aunque ninguno de los dos ganase.
Faye Dunaway, Marlon Brando, Charlton Heston, Laurence Olivier, Roberto Benigni, Halle Berry y Liza Minnelli, Sofia Coppola, Ben Affleck, Kevin Costner y Prince tienen todos (al menos) un Oscar y un Razzie en su poder.El actual presidente de Estados Unidos, George Bush, ganó un Razzie por su intervención en la película documental Fahrenheit 911.
